Adopt a Dog FAQ
To get started, please read over our requirements for adoption. There are many rescues in our local area, each with different rules when it comes to adopting a furry friend. After you have determined you fit our requirements, then please submit an Adoption Application!
All of our dogs reside in foster homes until they are adopted. Meets with our adoptable dogs are only scheduled after we have received and approved your completed application.
To be considered for adoption, all applicants must first meet our basic Fenced Yard and Adoption Radius requirements, as well as our Vet care requirements of having a current and consistent records for ALL pets (past and current) being kept up to date on core vaccinations, yearly heartworm testing and heartworm prevention. We also require that all pets in the home must be/have been spayed/neutered.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Although we do not pre-approve applications for you to adopt any pet we have (we select adopters based on best fit for each pet’s needs), we can apply and re-screen your application for another pet. All you have to do is email us and let us know which one you would like to apply your application to.
We will hold applications for 3 months, if your application was submitted more than 3 months between pets, or you have had significant changes in your household or Vet, please complete a new application. If your application was for an adult dog and you would like to switch your application to a puppy, you will need to submit a new application.
We will hold applications for 3 months. If you have applied to adopt a pet, and they were adopted by another applicant or you were not selected for that pet, you may submit a Contact Us form if you see another pet you are interested in adopting. We are happy to screen your existing application for another pet. If it has been over 3 months since you applied, or there have been significant changes in your household (number of people, number of pets, new address, etc.) or any changes in your vet history, please submit a new application. If your original application was for an adult dog, and you have changed interest to a puppy, you will need to submit a new application and answer the puppy questions accordingly.
Can I adopt a companion for my other puppy or for my small child(ren)?
Each family’s situation will be considered on a case by case basis. Although, for the safety of the children, and the safety and well-being of our rescue animals, Peppermint Pig Animal Rescue may choose not to adopt to families with children under 5 years of age.
All applications are reviewed in the order they are received and qualifications are based on the best fit for each individual animal. The majority of denied applicants do not meet our specific fence, radius, rental and/or vetting requirements. We select adopters based on best overall fit for each dog we rescue; each applicant’s experience, energy level and other details gathered from the application. All of this is considered to select homes that match each dog’s specific needs and personalities.
